General Bookish

Spooktober to be read books || #bookblog #bookblogger

OK, I am so excited for October. 🍂 As someone who loves horror the other 11 months of the year too, I love watching my bookish friends get into the spirit of the spooky vibes with their October to be read lists. I’ve been building my hopefuls list over the past month and has it gotten out of control? YES. But do I care? NO. Because I will drag horror month well into November if need be.

First up on my list is Song for the Unraveling of the World by Brian Evenson. This horror short story collection has been sitting on my shelf for a few months now and I’ve just been waiting for October to roll around to start it.

So, I don’t typically love short story collections in general. The stories always seem to abruptly end or just not really tell a story in the first place. I’m only one story into this collection, but I love what I’ve read so far!

The first story is about a girl who is two halves of a person – but, like, the back halves of each person put together so she has no face? So creepy!!!

Also on my list this month are The Haunting of Hill House, Mexican Gothic, and Lapvona. I’m kind of nervous with my current TBR because every single book I have on the list has very mixed reviews. I’m living on the edge for sure. 😅

The Haunting of Hill House has been on my TBR for way too long and I want to get in at least one “classic” this month. Mexican Gothic, it seems like people either love it or hate it? I’ve heard “best horror book I’ve read this year” and “worst book ever” from multiple reviewers so I’m just not sure what to expect with that one. Lapvona, I’ve heard less about, but the rating on Goodreads makes me think it could go either way. I’ve not read anything by Ottessa Moshfegh yet though so I’m excited to dig in.

What do you have on your spooky TBR in October? I might need to extend my list!
