Happy WWW Wednesday. This weekly prompt is hosted by Taking on a World of Words. Each week we’ll answer three reading questions. Feel free to leave your answer in the comments, or a link to your own WWW Wednesday post if you have one! 😊
The three questions are:
• What are you currently reading?
• What have you finished reading?
• What will you read next?
Currently Reading
I regret to inform that I am still reading Mexican Gothic. I’m probably 60% of the way through and I’m just… not feeling it? Yes, it’s atmospheric and creepy, but there’s somehow not much happening this far into the book. Maybe I don’t have the patience to enjoy this one.

However, Lapvona is currently eating me ALIVE. I started this book just a couple days ago and I’m about to hit the 30% mark. This book is so so so dark. I mean, like, really dark. Enough so that I’m almost reading it with my fingers splayed over my eyes. I have no idea what’s going to happen and I’m scared for the main character.
There is a lot of messed up stuff in this book even so early on, I don’t know if it’s something I’ll ever actually recommend to other people because it takes a very specific personality type and taste to actually want to read something that’s so messy. I’ll definitely be done with this one by next Wednesday.
Finished Reading
I finished The Wicked King over the weekend! I enjoyed it a lot more than the first book in the series – and I did enjoy that one. So this was like a 5 out of 5 star read for me. I’m planning on doing a review at some point, but I can’t wait to jump into the third book now.
Reading Next
I kind of started A Court of Thorns and Roses, but then I stopped because I have too many books on my immediate TBR to jump into the series at this moment. That being said, I’ll probably restart this book after my current reads are done. I’ve never read an SJM book before and I’ve heard like wildly mixed reviews from “best thing ever” to “worst thing ever” so I’m looking forward to seeing where I land on the scale.
Have you read any of my WWW books? What did you think?
I think I’ve seen mixed reviews for Mexican Gothic so maybe it’s just not for you.

Yes! It seemed about 50/50 in my friend group on whether they enjoyed it or not 😃

Ah. It’s a shame Mexican Gothic isn’t working for you, Hopefully A Court of Thorns and Roses goes better!

I wanted to love Mexican Gothic even though I’d heard mixed reviews. I’m hoping to get pulled into the ACOTAR series at least 💜

That reminds me I have a copy of Mexican Gothic on my kindle that I haven’t read yet! lol…I have read two of her other books that I enjoyed a lot. Lapvona sounds scary!

I haven’t read any others of hers. Which have you enjoyed most from her?

I liked The Beautiful Ones. If you are more into sci-fi, The Daughter of Doctor Moreau was good too. Those are the only two I’ve read from her.

Oooo I hope you enjoy ACOTAR when you get round to it!

I’ve seen Mexican Gothic around and have thought about it. That other book sounds something!! Even the cover puts me on edge.
I loved ACOTAR. I read A Court of Thorns and Roses first then left it for a while before embarking on the rest of the series.
Have a great week!

Totally agree on the cover of Lapvona! It made me want to read the book because I felt so uncomfortable looking at it haha.
I’ve heard people fly through the ACOTAR series even though the books are pretty long. I hope I get as into them! 💜

Haha. I can see that. It’s not obviously scary, it’s more curious so I wouldn’t mind if it was on my book shelf – some books…
Yes, I am a slow reader and I got though them pretty quick. I read them on my phone so I didn’t see how long they actually were!
The chances are high, but when something is so popular there is always the chance that you have too high expectations (I don’t think so in this case, but then I really enjoyed them!)

I was really not expecting to enjoy it as much as I am because I heard so many things about it being unnecessarily vile. That actually might still be true but I am GLUED!

I enjoyed Mexican Gothic, but I can understand people who want more to happen. I’m glad you’re liking Lapova more!

Yes, I can totally understand why people like Mexican Gothic too! I’m just so impatient 😂

I am not reading any of your WWW anytime soon but I have seen Mexican Gothic in socmed lately. I am intrigued if I would like it if I get to read it in the future.

I hope you do enjoy it if you read in the future! It was hit or miss with my friend group 💚

I haven’t heard of Lapnova before, but the cover reminded me of the movie Lamb (which was more unnerving and weird than anything else, haha). Even though I heard mixed reviews on Mexican Gothic, I’ve heard good things about Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s work overall, and I have Gods of Jade and Shadow on my TBR (it’s fantasy, so it might be a good option if you want to try more of her work!).
